What an incredible experience to have the National Science Teacher Conference here in Detroit.
I found all of the sessions I attended very validating and all explained a clear need for hands-on science, inquiry, and writing.
I attended two sessions on Literacy and Science and found many common threads.
*Teachers need to model writing and THINKING for students
*Teachers need to present materials in more than one way
*There are a variety of wonderful children’s books to choose from to teach science
*Writing in science is not a research paper- it is assessment, exit writing, entrance writing, explain a diagram, …

My presentation on summer opportunities for science teachers was very well received. It definitely connected to the
Science and Literacy sessions I attended. My workshop covered:

Honeywell Space Camp Experience
The other – A Science Teacher and the National Writing Project
